Exploring restaurants is fun but finding restaurants that serve complete entrees, dinners or desserts that are fat-free and low in salt and sugar is very often not successful. Six Main was able to serve one entrée with omission of some of its main components.

Info: Vegetarian restaurant features produce from their own farm in Old Lyme. Serves gourmet vegetarian, vegan and raw vegan options. Organic wine and beer list. Elegant setting. Call for reservations. Price: Moderate. Accepts credit cards.

Hours: Sun-Thu 5-9pm, Fri-Sat 5-10pm, Sun Brunch 10am-3pm.

Park: Available in rear of property.


Six Main is a classy upscale restaurant cuddled in the center of this small Connecticut town. It provides top service and sophisticated vegan menu prepared in gourmet style with delicious sauces. However, no fat-free salt-free entrée is available but the chef was able to customize an item.

Soup of the Day, $5

A cold gazpacho soup.

The soup was very tasty and refreshing.


Dinner: Portobello Steak au Poivre, $21

From the Menu: Portobello mushroom, potato celeriac gratin, seasonal vegetable, spring greens, sauce au poivre. Customized as excluding the potato celery root gratin and serving the crushed pepper sauce separately.


From my “Emergency Kit” I used Annie’s fat-free Raspberry Balsamic Vinaigrette, instead of the provided sauce, and drizzled it over ‘steak’ and vegetables. The seared Portobello mushroom was nice and the carrots and asparagus provided together with the greens a fine meal. However, I am slowly getting tired of having nearly always to retrieve to Portobello instead of fat-free tofu or another fat-free main item.
